Obituary

Betty Jean “Jeanie” Finke, 82, of Brenham, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023. Jeanie was born December 29, 1940 in Brenham to Dennis and Bertha Wittner.

Jeanie was baptized and confirmed in Welcome Lutheran Church, and she attended Industry and Bellville Schools graduating from Bellville High School and Cosmetology School in Bryan, Texas. On May 13, 1962 she married Harold “Cotton” Finke the two were married 58 years until his death in 2021. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Brenham. Jeanie was a hairdresser for many years at Tut’s Beauty Shop and Brenham Beauty Salon and at local nursing homes and funeral homes. Her greatest treasures were her family, especially her great grandchildren who called her Gigi and brought her a tremendous amount of happiness just to get to see them and get a great big hug from them. She loved the simple things in life like going to the farm to fish, gardening, and canning and just recently had read every one of her cookbooks from front to back.

She is preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Bertha Wittner, her father and mother-in-law Louis and Elma Finke, her husband Harold “Cotton” Finke, brother in laws; Elroy Finke, Floyd Finke, Weldon Finke, Edsel Wiesepape, and Walter Storrs, sister in laws; Delores Wiesepape, Shirley Finke, and Linda Finke.

Jeanie is survived by her children Kim Hartnett and her husband Jerry and Jeff Finke and his wife Lori; her grandchildren, Lauren Hartnett Tiernan and husband Peter, Mason Hartnett and wife Ashley, step-grandaughters Amber Boeker and fiancé Kyle Armstrong and Shaye Boeker; great grandchildren, Madisyn, Hadley, and Parker Hartnett and Claire, Lillian, and Emma Tiernan; sister in laws, Oranell Storrs, Darlene Kelly, Shirley Finke and Sherri Finke along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Pallbearers for Jeanie will be Mason Hartnett, Peter Tiernan, Mark Finke, and Rodney Wittner.

A visitation for Jeanie will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023 from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church located at 1500 Salem Road, Brenham, Texas, with Dr. Craig Dohse officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Industry.

Memorials may be donated to Salem Lutheran Church.
