Obituary
Joe DeLuke, 85, went to be with his Lord on June 29, 2009. His loving wife of 60 years was by his side as he was called home. Joe was born in Bryan, Texas on October 10, 1923 to Frank and Rosie DeLuke and lived there with his 4 sisters and 3 brothers. The family later moved to Houston where he met his wife, Wanda, and married in 1949.
They have two daughters, Shirley and Diana, 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He proudly served his country from 1943 to 1945 with the 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion of the U.S. Army and ended his service as a corporal.
Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the American Legion and Top Cats Dance Club.
He was loved for his goodness, kindness and patience and admired for his dedication to his family and friends. He loved his family and enjoyed their get-togethers on family occasions and holidays. He will be remembered and missed by family and many close friends. Joe had many careers over his lifetime, from delivering telegrams on his bicycle at age 14 to delivering milk for Sanitary Farms. Next, he owned and operated Joe’s Food Market in Houston. At the age of 62 he operated Joe’s Truck Lines, which included 9 gravel trucks. After retirement life in Latium, they moved to Brenham and he worked for the Durham School Service assisting handicapped children until the age of 84.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm on Wednesday, July 1st at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10 am on Thursday, July 2nd, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. Joe will be honored with a military ceremony presented by the American Legion.
