Obituary
Johanna Montgomery, age 69, of Brenham, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Kruse Village.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. A private ceremony for immediate family and close friends will be held at a later date in Brenham.
Johanna Geers Montgomery was born on March 19, 1956, in Houston, Texas, to Allen Herman and Helene (Rafferty) Geers.
Johanna was a proud graduate of the San Jacinto College nursing program, Class of 1978. She began her career as a pediatric ICU nurse at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston before moving to Brenham in 1981 to work at the Brenham State Supported Living Center and help care for her mother and grandfather. She dedicated nearly 40 years of service to the BSSLC, retiring in 2020. Over the years, she held many roles including Genetics Liaison, Shift RN, RN Supervisor, Case Manager, and Interim Residence Director. The friendships she formed with her colleagues were deeply meaningful, and many of them became like family.
Johanna was married to Marty Montgomery on March 24, 1984, and they shared a full life together until his passing on June 22, 2020.
She found joy in the simple things like raising ducks, relaxing on the front porch with her dogs, and, more than anything, being a mother. She loved attending her friend Sean Walters’ concerts in Houston, spoiling her granddaughter, and watching old soap opera reruns. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and care that touched everyone who knew her, especially the many friends she worked alongside throughout her nursing career.
Johanna is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Annabe, Allyn Louise “Boogie,” and infant sister Rosemary.
She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Annie, Jordan, and Scarlett LaBeth; her son, Jacob Montgomery; her sisters, Jeanne (Wiley) Mathis and Therese Hostetter; nephews Brandon and Christopher Knight, and Eric and Matthew Hostetter; and her three beloved dogs, Benji, Belle, and Boo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Volunteer Services Council of Brenham SSLC, 4001 Texas Highway 36, Brenham, TX 77833 www.brenhamvsc.com
The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who prayed for and visited Johanna during this time. They are grateful to the staff at Argent Court and Kruse Village for their support during Johanna’s final months. Most of all, the family thanks the hospice staff at Accent Care for the compassionate and gentle care they provided in her final weeks.
