Obituary

JOHN (Jack) STRIBLING BACE, of Houston, Texas, was born February 10, 1932, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and died in an accident at his ranch in Beeville, Texas, on June 6, 2008.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Susie Kelly Bace; his son, John Kelly Bace and his wife Melissa Balbach and grandchildren Margaret and Madeline of Buffalo, New York; his daughter, Mary Stuart Hay and husband Edward Hay, Jr., and grandchildren Wyatt and Elliott, of Charleston, South Carolina.

His love of scouting led him to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout with two palms. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. He served as a pilot and paratrooper in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Captain, following his undergraduate education at Oklahoma State University. He received his MBA from the University of Texas and his AMP from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He was associated with several investment management firms before joining Eagle Management and Trust in the mid-1970s, as a partner. He retired in the mid-1990s. Later in his career he took pleasure in mentoring graduate students and young professionals in the field of Investments. He was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club. He previously served on the boards of Holly Hall Retirement Home and the Hallmark Retirement Home and was formerly president of the River Oaks Property Owners Association. His later years were spent serving on the board of the Joe Barnhart Foundation in Beeville, Texas. He was a devoted life-time member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1961, where he served as Deacon and Elder.

There will be a private burial Monday June 9, 2008, in Independence, Texas where his ancestors settled in the 1800s.

The memorial service will be Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, at 3 p.m. A reception will follow in the Hines Baker Room at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice. Jack will be remembered for his energetic and engaging personality, his love of family and friends, and his beloved Labrador, Chrissy.
