Obituary
John Clinton Fisher, Sr., 74 of Brenham and formerly of Houston and San Antonio joined his heavenly Father Friday, January 2, 2004. Clint, the only child born to Howard Clinton and Florence Baker Fisher on San Jacinto Day April 21, 1929 in Rock Creek, Texas.
As a child in Denison, Texas he was a honor student throughout his educational years, a Boy Scout, had a paper route, worked for Western Union, a local paint shop earning all of his own spending money since the age of twelve. He surveyed the Rocky Mountains and all the state of Colorado for Gulf Oil Company.
On December 28, 1947 Clint married his sweetheart, Joyce Newland in the First Baptist Church of Denison, Texas. On December 28, 2003 they celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary. He was a Youth Church Leader and Elder in the First Christian Church in San Antonio. Clint was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fly fishing, snow and water skiing, he was also a gourmet cook. He was employed with Broyhill Furniture Company for many years which earned him numerous awards
Clint and Joyce have lived in Brenham for 23 years where they are members of the First Baptist Church. For the past 16 years they have been the owners of Seek and Find Antiques and The Lamplighter Shop.
Clint was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Joyce Fisher of Brenham; he was a darling daddy to his children; two daughters, Joy Fisher Hein and husband Frank of San Antonio, Janet Carol Fisher of Brenham, son and daughter-in-law John Clinton Fisher II and Cindy Laney of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 9 grandchildren Christopher Covey and wife Karen, Kimberley Caneil Leible and husband David, Holly Laurel Hein, Kylee Ann Gee and husband Trevor, John Clinton Fisher III, Thomas Alexander Fisher, Jonathan Sharp and wife Tiffany, Elizabeth Wetherington and husband Kevin and Heidi Peron; 6 great-grandchildren Seth David Leible, Willow Caneil Covey, Tyler Wade Sharp, Ashley Sharp, Luna Gee and Mary Gee; one aunt Evelyn Smith and husband Raymond of Sherman, Texas; numerous cousins including Freda Boston, Carlos Brady and W. H. Fisher of North Texas.
Clint was a friend to one and all, he was always ready with a handshake, hug, smile and love. He never knew a stranger. He loved his Savior and was ready to witness at any time.
The Fisher family will receive family, friends and visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2004 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Ponder officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are Dick Chapman, Lewis (Bud) Foster, Jim Humphrey, Burford Langston, Charlie Matejowsky, Allen Shriber, Clyde Schneider and Nelson White. Honorary pallbearers are Bracy Bledsoe, James Carstarphen, Joe Cravens, Carlos Brady, W. H. Fisher, Jack Appel, Robert Appel, Jack Newton, Roy Jennings, Henry Jennings, Harvey Bradley, Bob Prejean, Will O’Brien, David Thompson and the Scripture Searchers Sunday School Class.
