Josephine (Jo) Vece Young

Josephine Florence Vece Young passed away peacefully in The Woodlands, Texas on April 17, 2006 at the age of 82. Josephine was born on January 16, 1924 in Melrose Park, Illinois to Constantine and Rose Fronacola Vece. Her family attended Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Melrose Park, Illinois. She graduated Proviso High School Class of 1942. On January 28, 1945, Josephine married Solon D. Young.

Josephine was the youngest of twelve children. Josephine was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Josephine lived in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma for the majority of her life where she was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Jo’s greatest joy was her church and family. Jo enjoyed antiquing with friends, was an excellent cook and took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens.

After her husband’s death, Jo moved to Brenham, Texas to be closer to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She became a member at St Mary’s Catholic Church and developed many friendships in the community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her eleven brothers and sisters, her husband and her son, Solon D. Young II.

Josephine is survived by two granddaughters, Abigail Young-Thompson and her husband Benjamin of The Woodlands, Texas, and Amanda A. Young of Brenham. Josephine’s great granddaughters are Laura Elizabeth Thompson, Julia Caroline Routt Thompson, Emma Catherine Grace Thompson and Lillian Katherine Knolle Young. Also surviving are her daughter-in-law Marjorie Routt Young of Brenham, her brother and sisters-in law, Edith and Howard LeFlore, Lynn and Nancy Young and Helen Griffith of Oklahoma as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation with the family will begin at 6:00 in the evening on Thursday, April 20, 2006 with rosary being recited at 7:00 in the evening at Brenham Memorial Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, April 21 at 10:00 in the morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Father David Ivey, celebrant. Graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
