Obituary

Joyce Elaine Landua Rust, 73, of Burton, TX, died on July 30, 2021. Joyce was born in Burton Texas on August 20, 1947 to Earl Bruce and Minnie Lee Prenzler Landua. She was baptized October 12, 1947 by Rev. AR Wolber and confirmed August 27, 1961 by Rev. Lynn Zimmerman at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. On June 4, 1966, she married Herbert Edward Rust.

Joyce was a 1965 graduate of Burton High School and competed on the basketball team with All District honors all four years. She worked several years at Burton Elementary School before working as an administrative assistant at the Brenham State Supported Living Center. Joyce retired in 1998 from BSSLC. She was a lifetime active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, devoted member of many different bible study groups, adult Sunday school, WELCA, church council and loved singing in the church choir. Throughout her numerous medical surgeries and complications she stayed dedicated to her faith and her God led journey. She was faithful in attendance each year she was able to support and celebrate her journey in the Relay for Life fundraiser supporting the American Cancer Society. Joyce enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. She loved shopping, eating out, cooking when her family came to visit, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, feeding and watching birds, hummingbirds and deer at her home in Rehburg.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert E. Rust of Burton, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Vicky Rust of Cypress, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Bradley Jasinski of Burton, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Arlin Naegeli of Burton, TX; sister-in-law Dorothy Hicks of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Haley and Abby Rust, and Della and Briley Jasinski.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Minnie Landua; parents-in-law, Herbert Albert and Della Rust; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack Hicks, Clarence and Vicki Rust, and Harold (Slim) and Aneva Rogas.

Serving as pallbearers are James Naegeli, Steve Naegeli, Kyle Naegeli, Jason Derrick, Nolan Rogas, and Bryan Rogas.

Honorary special guests are Charles Landua, Douglas Landua, Bob Davis, Rev. Bill Derrick, Sandra Becker and Laurell Smith.

A visitation will be from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Brenham Memorial Chapel, with the family present from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, with Rev. Dr. Alvin Luedke officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg (Sunday School/VBS) and/or American Cancer Society.
