Joyce Slayton McAlister

Joyce Slayton McAlister “Gran,” born June 24, 1927, in Harlingen, Texas, peacefully joined her Lord and Savior on July 27, 2021, at the age of 94.

Joyce married her adoring husband of 61 years, Pastor Warren Alfred McAlister “Brother Mac” in Kingsville, Texas. Serving and ministering beside him was her greatest joy. Together, Joyce and Mac shared their love of the Lord with the world.

Joyce had a passion for education and spent her career teaching where she inspired many generations before retiring from BISD.

She loved to read and could complete a crossword puzzle with ease. She enjoyed canning, baking and cooking. Joyce used her beautiful voice to serve in the choir, serenade her grandbabies and above all, worship the Lord.

A devoted woman of God and a prayer warrior. Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Beloved aunt and friend to many. Joyce led a life of joy rooted in faith.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Terry Mark McAlister and his wife Terry Jones McAlister, daughter, Merre McAlister; her grandchildren Casey Kilsby, Ashley Harris, Trace McAlister and Chris McAlister; great-grandchildren Audrey Kilsby, Nevaeh Mae Harris, Dylan Kilsby, and Verity Mei LaBeur as well as many special nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Algie Slayton and Sallie Williams Slayton, husband Warren “Mac” McAlister, brother Doyle McAlister and sister Donie Butler and her husband Bill Butler.
Pallbearers will be Roger Slayton, Trace McAlister, Chris McAlister, Cole Winters, Cody Croxton, and Arturo LaChica.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 31st from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stinger Street in Brenham, Texas followed by a service at 2:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Darren Donaldson.
