Julia Antkowiak

Julia Antkowiak, 88 of Brenham, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center, Bryan with family members by her side.

She was born February 7, 1923 in the Klump Community of Washington County to Frank and Mary (Konieczny) Januszewski. She attended Klump School. On February 19, 1946, she married Julian Antkowiak at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together they raised cattle on their ranch. Julia enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, making quilts and ceramics, family reunions and holiday gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter all done in love for her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling. She made several trips to Europe including countries behind the iron curtain and Poland. This resulted in her locating family members that were forgotten and never migrated to the United States with the rest of the family in the late 1800’s.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband Julian on October 11, 1987, grandson Kent Antkowiak, sisters Regina Januszewski and Angelina Twardowski.

Survivors include: her children, Julian Antkowiak, Jr. and Rebecca Hayes of Galveston, Clara and Daniel Massey of Galveston, Michael and Marlyn Antkowiak of Brenham, Joe and Karla Antkowiak of Burton; grandchildren, Jessica Massey and fiancé Chris O’Sullivan, Matthew Massey, Jon and Pam Antkowiak, Scott Antkowiak, William Antkowiak, Jensen Antkowiak, Kylie Antkowiak, Alexis Antkowiak; great granddaughter, Mary Antkowiak; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and Angeline Januszewski, Albin and Angeline Januszewski; sisters and brother-in-law, Clara Wesneski, Natalie and Harold Wesneski; sisters-in-law, Regina Jozwiak, Regina Antkowiak; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 11th beginning at 5:30 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 12th at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Benedict Zientek as celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jessica Massey, Matthew Massey, Jon Antkowiak, Scott Antkowiak, William Antkowiak, Jensen Antkowiak, Kylie Antkowiak, Alexis Antkowiak, Chris O’Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers will be Pam Antkowiak, Mary Antkowiak; her godchildren, Thomas Wesneski, James Wesneski, Ann Marie Cargill and Dorothy Mieth.
