Obituary

Julia Jozwiak Derkowski, 87 of Chappell Hill, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2016, after battling Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on April 10, 1929 in Galveston, Texas to Paul and Monica (Dekowski) Jozwiak and had one sister Beatrice Jozwiak. Julia attended Catholic school in Galveston and was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in 1948.

Julia was married to Albin Derkowski in Chappell Hill in October 1948. They lived in Galveston and raised two children – Paul and Donna. In retirement, they moved to Chappell Hill. Julia was active in St Stanislaus Catholic Church organizations. Julia and Albin enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas to play the slot machines. They loved their children with all their hearts and their greaest joy was their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albin Derkowski, her parents Paul and Monica Jozwiak, and her sister Beatrice Jozwiak.

She is survived by: her son, Paul Derkowski and wife Theresa; her daughter, Donna Kraft; and three grandchildren, Brian Derkowski and wife Sarah, Philip Derkowski and wife Bonnie, and Tiffany Che Kraft; five great grandchildren, Sheldon Derkowski, Benjamin Derkowski, Emily Derkowski, Katherine Derkowski, and Andrew Derkowski; and by niece, nephews, and cousins.

Serving as pallbearers are: Michael Jozwiak, James Jozwiak, Brian Derkowski, Philip Derkowski, Henry Pawlawski, and Terry Derkowski.

The immediate family will have a private Rosary service led by the grandchildren and the great grandchildren.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Chappell Hill with Rev. Jozef Musiol, SDS JCD officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial donation be made in Julia Derkowski’s name to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church 9175 FM 1371, Chappell Hill, Texas 77426 or to Houston Hospice at www.houstonhospice.org
