Keith Barnett

Keith Barnett, age 76, of Brenham, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, TX.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, at Brenham Fireman’s Training Center, 1101 Hwy 290 West.

Keith was born July 19, 1942 in Cresson, TX to parents Keith and Pauline (Shawn) Barnett and graduated from Mesquite High School. He married the former Paula Annette Daugherty.

As a member of NCHA since 1961, his many accolades with the NCHA include:
1964 recognized as the youngest Open Top Ten Rider; Top Ten Open Division horses in 6 consecutive decades from 1960s – 2010s; 17 Top Ten Open Horses; 30 Top Ten finishes in the Novice Divisions; 6 World Champion Titles—Novice, Geldings and Mares; Reserve World Champion in Open Division; Reserve Champion in the NCHA Open Futurity; Reserve Champion in the 1st NCHA Derby in Albuquerque; NCHA Rider’s Hall of Fame Member (inducted the 1st year); Elected to NCHA Executive Board 4 Times; NCHA Director for over 35 years; Founding Member and 1st Vice President of the Atlantic Coast CHA; Atlantic Coast CHA Hall of Fame Member; Co-Founder of the Crawfish Classic; 2-Time AQHA World Champion--Cutting Horse Division; 2-Time AQHA Reserve World Champion--Cutting Horse Division; Bluebonnet CHA Hall of Fame Member; NCHA 4-A Judge--Multiple Times NCHA Open Futurity Judge; ACHA Rider’s Hall of Fame Member.

Surviving and loving family includes: wife, Paula Barnett; children and spouses Jimmy Barnett and wife Danielle, Lauren Buth and husband Hans, Byron Lake and wife Margaret; grandchildren Madison Buth, Garrison Buth, Justin Lake, Alexandria Lake and Jackson Lake.

His parents Keith and Pauline Barnett along with grandchildren Cody and Nikki Barnett preceded him in death.
