Obituary

La Thel E. Seidel Schroeder, age 92, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm, Wednesday, April 29, 2015 with Pastor Phil Fenton, officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 28. Both will be held in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

La Thel was born in Brenham, Texas on February 16, 1923 to Lawrence Ernest and Thelma Amsler Seidel. La Thel was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was baptized on June 10, 1923 and confirmed on March 21, 1937 both by Rev. Arthur Hartmann. She graduated with the Class of 1941 from Brenham High School and from Blinn College and also attended Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. La Thel worked at the Washington County Tax Collectors office and also was the secretary to the manager of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. On July 14, 1946 La Thel married Rudolph Schroeder at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Theo R. Streng officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rudy Schroeder; her son, Allan Schroeder; mother-in-law, Bernita Schroeder; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Clarence Meacham; brother, Fred William Seidel and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, LaVerna and Robert Stolz. La Thel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Debbie Schroeder of Round Rock, Texas; her sister-in-law, Blanche Seidel of Brenham; her nephew, Wade Seidel and wife Susie of Brenham; and her niece, Kay Carnahan and husband Steve of Rosenberg; Sam Seidel and wife Lainey of Houston; Sarah Seidel Brieden and her husband Arty of College Station.

La Thel was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Past President of the Brenham Elementary School PTA and also Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary. She also served one term as President of St. Paul’s Altar Guild, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

The family would like to acknowledge and give special thanks to her special friend, Shannon Roop, AMA Home Care and her caregivers, Dietrich “Dee” Curry, Shanntina Lewis, Beverly Schlabach and Janice Pittman. In addition the family would like to acknowledge a special thanks to Erma Pruett who was her first caregiver and maintained a close relationship until La Thel’s passing. In addition the family acknowledges the care and concern given over the last few weeks by Brazos Valley Hospice.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Paul’s TV and Radio Ministries or the Hospice Brazos Valley .
