Obituary

Leroy Joseph Super, aged 93, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Kruse Village Nursing Center in Brenham, Texas where he had resided for a short time with his wife, Alyce . Leroy was called Lee by his family and everyone else knew him as Roy.

Leroy was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, on January 21, 1919 to Charles and Mary Super. He was the middle of five sons who lost their father at a young age and had to help their mother earn a living. At eight years old, he sold milk, shined shoes and had newspaper routes. In 1941, he married Faith Etta Bishop, they had a daughter Victoria born 5 days before the Pearl Harbor attack, and he was one of the first to join the army during World War II from their county. After Roy returned from the war, their son, Douglas, was born and he worked as the Service Department Manager for Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison. During the Korean conflict, he reenlisted and was an ordinance specialist. In 1967 the Supers moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he was a department manager for Motorola and he designed computer information systems.

Roy's son and daughter both married and he enjoyed being with his three grandchildren during visits. Devon and Trent Hanna would come from Texas and Laura Super would visit from Vancouver, Canada. He also had special relationships with his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Super and his son-in-law, John Hanna, and later Joseph Courtney.

In 1992, Faith lost her four year battle with rheumatoid arthritis with Roy as her faithful caregiver. In 1993 ,he met and married Alyce Jones, his loving wife for the next 19 years. They moved to Texas to be closer to family and loved living at the Kruse retirement community where for a couple of years they were able to participate in all the activities. When Alyce developed physical limitations last year, Roy was once again a faithful and devoted caregiver.

Roy loved life. He enjoyed traveling and he and Alyce were able to visit family throughout the US and Canada and traveled in several other countries. An avid fisherman, he tried to teach all three grandchildren how to fish. He excelled at writing skits and performing at many community venues. Roy loved having friends over for parties and playing card and board games with everyone. A member at Brenham First United Methodist Church, he and Alyce were faithful in their Christian beliefs and he enjoyed being a greeter. He was also a member of the Elks organization.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers, Carl, Don, Bill and Dick, his wife Faith and his son-in-law Joe Courtney. He is survived by his wife Alyce of Kruse Village, his daughter Vicki Courtney of Bryan, his son and wife Doug and Marilyn Super of Vancouver, Canada, his grandchildren, Devon Hanna of New Braunfels, Trent Hanna and Amanda Ernst of Huntsville, Laura Super of Vancouver, two great grandchildren, Symphony Hanna of Canyon Lake and Aurora Hanna of Huntsville, step families, Bill and Elizabeth Feldman of Wooster, Ohio, Dick and Beth Feldman of Topeka, Kansas, and Kay Jones of Corpus Christi, Texas, sisters-in-law Betty Super of Bigfork, Montana and Mary Anne Super of Frederick, Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
