Obituary
L.G. Herzog of Brenham passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006 in Trinity Medical Center.
On September 25, 1933, L.G. was born to Willie and Julia (Kunkel) Herzog in Brenham. He was baptized November 30, 1933 and confirmed May 16, 1948 both at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Burton. L.G. lived in Burton and was a graduate of Burton High School and Blinn College and attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. His employment included LaGrange State Bank, Burton State Bank, Roy Wiese Pharmacy, Blue Bell Creameries as office manager, Seeker Distributing Company as business manager, Brenham Memorial Chapel as financial officer for 39 years, and Blinn College working in the student center for many years.
L.G. was a friend to everyone that he saw on a daily basis. He was always young at heart and enjoyed involvement with the youth of Washington County as: high school basketball referee, Washington County Little League Association secretary-treasurer and scorekeeper for district and area playoff games, fast pitch softball scorekeeper, Blinn College basketball and football running the clock. He also had served as president of Kiwanis Club and on the Washington County Fair Association entertainment committee.
The church family at St. John’s United Church of Christ was an important part of L.G.’s life. There he served as treasurer for 28 years.
He enjoyed fishing, walking at Lake Somerville and Jackson Street Park, and listening to soft music.
L.G. was preceded in death by his parents, special cousins Herbert Kunkel and Gene Kunkel, and special friend Elton Anderson, Sr.
Survivors include: special cousins, Edna Kunkel, Peggy Kunkel, Jerry and Beth Kunkel, Keith Kunkel, Cody Kunkel; adopted family, Agnes “Andy” Anderson, Elton and Karen Anderson, Matthew and Jennifer Anderson, William Anderson, Brian Anderson, and his many special friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 22, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
L.G. will lie in state Sunday, April 23, 2006 from noon until the celebration of his life service begins at 2:00 p.m. in St. John’s United Church of Christ with Rev. Glen Schoeneberg officiating with Mr. Greg Felder assisting. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be St. John’s Church Council. Honorary pallbearers will be St. John’s Youth Group.
