Lloyd Albert Daniel, age 89 of Madisonville, Texas, passed Friday, November 24, 2017, in Bryan, Texas.
He was born June 1, 1928, in Gulfport, Mississippi to Wallace and Melissa (Cuevas) Daniel. He was the 9th child born in his family of 9 children. He had 4 brothers and 4 sisters. His Father was Wallace Simeon Daniel born in Monrovia, Alabama in 1882. His Mother was Melissa Edith Cuevas Daniel, born 1894 in Catahoula, Mississippi. His siblings were Evelyn Ussery, Wallace, Dorothy & Doris (Twins), Arenall Trochesset, Jerry Neal, John Joseph, and Floyd Alford (identical twin). He worked as a butcher with his brother Jerry at the family’s market who taught him how to cut meat. He married the love of his life, Betty Lou Butler, in 1946. On October 14, 1956, he and his family moved to Houston, Texas, and lived in the Heights Area. He was employed by Houston’s first A&P grocery store as Head of the meat department, Lloyd also worked at Smith’s Store in Spring Branch and various other stores in Houston. He loved to go camping, fishing, deer hunting and taking vacations to Gulfport, Mississippi to visit family which were special family times together. He was a hard worker all of his life and loved to be with family, friends, ride children around on his tractor, 4wheeler, fishing in the pond at the farm or just sitting and talking with them. He also loved to play “42” with family and friends.
After Betty, loving mother of his children passed, he retired and built a home in Madisonville, Texas on the land they had purchased. He then sold the Houston house located in Spring Branch where they raised their children. He enjoyed family visiting and staying with him. He loved the land, raising Simmental cattle, bailing hay, growing a garden, pecan trees, pear trees and his infamous fig tree that all the neighbors loved to pick figs from. After Betty passed he married Doris Kuhlman from the Brenham area and they traveled all over the state of Texas going to Simmental cattle sales, canning items from their garden and having lots of family gatherings at their home in Madisonville. Subsequent to Doris’ death he married Hazel Perkins who passed in 2016.
Lloyd was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church (a sister church with First Baptist Church of Houston) when his children were growing up in Houston. When he moved to Madisonville he was a member of Madisonville First Baptist Church. Years later he moved to Watercrest where he lived for 2 years and attended Central Baptist Church.
