Lorenz Alvin Seidel died December 11, 2006 at Trinity Care Center at the age of 93.
He was born in Brenham, Texas on March 31, 1913, the son of Mattie Green and Ernest Seidel. He felt fortunate to have lived in Brenham and to have belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church all his life. He was baptized on March 29, 1914, by The Reverend Edward Sagebiel and confirmed on April 10, 1927, by The Reverend Arthur Hartmann.
Lorenz Seidel graduated from Brenham High School in 1931 where he was elected football captain and Mr. Popularity. He attended Blinn College in 1931 and 1932 while working for Washington County Bank. In 1933, he and his future wife, Annie Louise Tiemann, were King and Queen of the 49th Senior Maifest. Annie Louise and Lorenz married on May 4, 1935. They always said they were sweethearts from the fifth grade on when Annie Louise moved to Brenham from Warrenton.
In 1940 he became manager of the Brenham Production Credit Association, a five county agricultural lending organization. He was elected Junior Chamber of Commerce “Man of the Year”, Washington County Fair President in 1955 and 1964, a Volunteer Fire Department member and officer for over twenty years, Maifest President, Church Council President, Outstanding Agriculture Extension Volunteer in 1991, Washington County Farm Bureau President, and Gun and Rod Country Club President. He retired in 1979 to spend more time fishing, hunting, and playing bridge and dominoes.
Lorenz was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2002, and his brothers Arnold Seidel in 1998 and Ernest Seidel in 1971.
The Seidels were blessed with two daughters and sons-in-law: Suzann and Don Jones of Brenham and Rebecca and David Flowers of Kingwood. Grandchildren: Russell Jones and Mary McKirahan Jones, Sandra and Bob Judge, Jill and Mark Rome, and Stacey Flowers-Carver and Laura Flowers-Carver; Great-grandchildren: Meredith and Cason Jones, Sarah and John McKirahan, Griffin Judge, Paxton and Hayden Rome, Alicia Noel, Colin and Cayman Flowers-Carver and numerous nephews.. His sister, Erna Seidel, lives in Longview. Zerlene Franklin has been the family caregiver for over fifty years.
Visitation is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services are 4:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2006 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham. Pastor Lawrence Bade and Pastor Kim Little-Brooks will officiate and interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers are nephews James Brewer, Travis Brewer, Algene Jaster, Jeffrey Landua, and Maxwell Weidner along with Lee Ford, Dick O’Malley and Alton Gasaway. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. W. F. Hasskarl, Jr., Fred Seidel and Bryan Rothermel’s Sunday School Class.
