Obituary

Louis F. Winkelmann, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Salem Lutheran Church, 1500 Salem Road, Brenham, TX on June 23, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be held before the funeral from 1:30 p.m.-2:15 p.m. Burial will take place immediately after in the Salem Cemetery. Please join the family for a reception in the Salem Lutheran Church Education building following the burial service.

Louis F. Winkelmann, Jr. was born June 14, 1935 in Brenham, Texas to Louis and Lillie Kramer Winkelmann. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. He attended Brenham High School where he played baseball for the Cubs. After high school, he served in the 3rd Armored Division of the United States Army with a tour in Germany. Louis worked in the steel industry for over 50 years and retired from NCI as the Shipping Superintendent.

On November 3, 1962 Louis married Dorothy Helen Kutac, and they were blessed with two daughters, Annie and DD.

Louis’ hobbies included working at the family farm where he grew up; anything and everything baseball. He enjoyed coaching the girls in softball. He also coached boys baseball and umpired with the CFSA. In fact, his bucket list item of seeing the Houston Astros play in the World Series came true.October 29, 2017, his daughters took him to see Game 5 of the World Series and he watched the Astros beat the LA Dodgers 13-12.

His favorite name was “Baboo”. He took pride in all of his granddaughters and enjoyed cheering them on in their various sports and activities they participated. Most recently his heart has been captured by his great grandchildren, Dylan, Conner, Avery and Addison.

Louis will be dearly missed by his wife of over 55 years, Dorothy Winkelmann; daughters, Ann Schroeder and husband, Ronnie; Diane Earle and husband, Tom; granddaughters, Ashley Schiffner and husband, Zachary; Renee Schroeder, Rebecca Earle, Rachel Earle, Stephanie Schroeder Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Dylan Jenkins, Conner Schroeder-McCain; Avery, Addison and baby three to be ? Schiffner; sister, Barbara Dietzmann and husband, Dick; brother-in- law, Willie Kutac and wife Debbie; sisters-in-law, Helen Patek and husband, Bill; Rose Siegel and husband, David; brother- in- law, Hubert Novak and wife, Betty Lou and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law, Willie and Annie Kutac and sister-in-law, MaryAnn Novak.

Pallbearers are Ronnie Schroeder, Tom Earle, Cary Dietzmann, Brian Dietzmann, Kenny Winkelmann, Hoby Biedermann, Alan Lawrence and Zach Schiffner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.
