Obituary

Louise “Squeakie” Lacina, 92 of Brenham, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 8th from 5-7 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 9th at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. Benedict Zientek and Deacon Al Prescott as celebrants. Interment will following Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Louise Marie Gurka was born May 5, 1926 in Washington County to Joseph and Susanna (Krolczyk) Gurka. She attended Brenham schools until the family moved to Rio Grande City. There she graduated in 1942. She worked at Phillips Petroleum Company in Borger, Texas until 1945. The family then returned to Brenham. Here, she helped her father open the Lone Star Café. Later, they concurrently ran the first drive thru liquor store. Squeakie married Eddie Lacina on May 8, 1948. The couple had four children Linda, Cindy, Jerry and Stoney.

Squeakie was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was involved as a Eucharistic minister, giving communion to members in nursing homes; a member of P.C.C.W.; worked at the Polish Heritage Festival; helped provide meals for families at funerals. For over 30 years, she helped with Bingo at nursing homes. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Linda Lacina, sister Jeanette Meaker and brother Alvin Gurka.

Her loving family includes: daughter, Cynthia (Gary) Frenzel; sons, Jerry (Cindy) Lacina, Stoney (Annie) Lacina; grandson, Derek Frenzel; step-grandchildren, Lee Neal, Cecil (Reeta) Grimes, Hunter Griffin, Anthony (Mina) Griffin; step-great-grandson, Hudson Griffin; brother Johnny (Bernice) Gurka.

Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Margaret Blizzard Senior Activity Center or Hospice Brazos Valley.
