Obituary

Mamie Stark Lorenz, age 97 of Brenham, passed away, February 10, 2023 with loved ones by her side.

Mamie Stark was born October 23, 1925 in the Mill Creek Community of Washington County to Otto and Annie (Janko) Stark. Later, the family farmed in Bleiblerville, where she attended school.

Mamie met Edward Lorenz at a dance in Prairie Hill. They were united in marriage February 15, 1947 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Houston. They made Houston their home and is where son Billy was born. They were members of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ for over 60 years. After moving back to Brenham, they joined St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was proud of her work as a food service manager in the Spring Branch ISD, from where she retired May 7, 1987. She gardened and was known for her pickles and delicious baked goods. The grandkids loved to play cards with her, especially Kings Corners. She and Edward also enjoyed family gatherings and social events, dancing and traveling. She was a member of the Sons of Hermann, Polka Lovers of America, SPJST Lodge 88 and the Teacher Retirement of Texas.

Mamie was preceded in death by: parents; husband Edward; son Douglas; siblings Lorine Koester, Alice Thielemann, Adela Zwahr, Frances Wavra, William Stark, James Stark, Quintes Stark, Franklin Stark, Alexander Stark.

Surviving family includes: son Billy Lee Lorenz and wife Lucy; grandchildren, Rena Lorenz Frank and husband Edward, Corey Lee Lorenz and wife Mary, Bridgette Schulze and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Jeremy Frank and wife Ali, Rebecca Speer and husband Easton, Hayley Harris and husband Justin, Landen Lorenz, Nathaniel Frank, Carley Frank, Darcey Lorenz, Quinn Schulze, Ryder Schulze, Rylie Schulze; great-great-grandchildren, Wilham Frank, Henley, Ceylon and Eli Speer and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 15th from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16th at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham with Deacon Katharine Cameron officiating.

Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Danny Koester, Michael Schovajsa, Tim Janish, Quintes Stark, Jr., Landen Lorenz and Nathaniel Frank
