Obituary

Sissy Miller passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in Brenham. She was 91 years old and passed peacefully at her home.

Memorial Services will be held Friday, October 25th at 11 a.m. in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

Martha Amanda Harris was born July 3, 1928 to Charles Lewis and Velma (Pass) Harris in West, Texas. In 1948, she graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Degree, and she later found employment at Baylor University, working as an Administrator in the office of the Dean of Men. This led her to a teaching position at West High School, where she taught bookkeeping and typing for 10 years.

On January 16, 1971, she married Bryan C. Miller, Jr. in Dallas. They made their home in Brenham, where Bryan was an Executive and an owner of Brentex Mills. She supported Bryan in his work and was an active member of her community.

Sissy was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where she sang in their choir and served on various committees. She supported many groups including Daughters of the American Revolution, Camp for All, and the Washington County Boys and Girls Club. She was active in the Brenham Tennis Association and was one of the first members of Lete Phillips’ exercise group. For over 40 years, she enjoyed her Monday Bridge Group and playing with many others.

Her volunteer work, leadership, and financial gifts through the Bryan C. Miller Jr. and Martha H. Miller Foundation emphasized a desire to help others reach their full potential. Sissy and Bryan contributed much of their time, energy and resources to helping others and their generous gifts will continue their legacy. Sissy is remembered for her kind heart and treating everyone with respect and dignity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Charles Lewis Harris, Jr. and daughter-in-law Beverly McMordie.

Loving family includes: sons Charles H. McMordie and wife Tammy L. Flowers, Frank F. McMordie III, step-sons Bryan C. Miller, III and wife Molly, Blake P. Miller and wife Susannah; grandchildren Tiffany and Bryan Morisak, Frank IV and Maggie McMordie, Madison Ladd, Maren and Clay Golden, Cameron and Brooks Miller, Kathryn and David Mashburn, Cotton Miller; great grandchildren Austin Morisak, Frank McMordie V, Skye and Topher Mashburn; caregivers Belvia Lewis, Barbara Wilson, JoAnn Brieden, Beverly Schlabach, Lani Lauter and all AMA staff; trainer and physical therapist John DeSimio; special friends Cyndi and Rob Lair, Jim and Nancy Moore, Don and Dena Houchin, Victor “Bubba” and Anne Brier, Sherita Hagberg, Jackie Miller; honorary pallbearers Seth McMeans, Evan McMordie, James Nix, Richard Greene, John C. Isaacs, Bob Hancock, Jim Ellison, Otto Hanak
