Obituary

Marvin Lloyd Christiansen (2/01/1931-11/24/2006) - Marvin “Big Red” Christiansen was born February 1, 1931, in Giddings, Lee County, Texas, to Guss and Clara Liebscher Christiansen. Marvin was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Giddings, Texas, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Austin, Texas. Following the death of his Mother from influenza, Marvin lived with his maternal grandmother, Sophie Schlottman Liebscher and his aunt, Eleanor. Marvin was educated at Good Hope School in the Giddings community, the Palm School, Austin, Texas, and finished his schooling in Houston, Texas, where he lived with his father. Marvin worked for Southern Pacific before joining Brown Express in Dallas, Texas, where he was the operations manager, retiring in 1988. Marvin married Rita Faye Pierce, the love of his life, on December 12, 1959. Marvin and Rita lived in Dallas until 1997, when they purchased property and built a home in Brenham, Texas. Marvin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shelby, Texas. In retirement, Marvin learned the joys of owning Pomeranian dogs and loved his two “girls” Mandy and Sassy. Marvin was faithful in caring for his two aunts, Gussie Liebscher Woodcock and Eleanor Liebscher Nau, until their death.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Christiansen; aunts, Gussie Liebscher Woodcock and Eleanor Liebscher Nau; and uncle, Herman Liebscher.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Rita; sister, Vernell Christiansen Kruemcke; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Edna Christiansen; sister-in-law, Florence Christiansen; and first cousin, Carol Liebscher Stayton. He was a beloved uncle to Brenda Kruemcke, Vincent and Donna Kruemcke, Kathryn and Steve Roberts, Roy and Laura Kruemcke, Jr., James and Cathy Christiansen, Jr., Charles and Lynn Christiansen, Jr., and Chuck and Clara Christiansen Fry. In his retirement years, Marvin was able to spend time with his great nephews and nieces, Ryan, Evan, Logan, Adrian, Ariel, Greg, Joel, Trace, Becca, Casey, Christopher, Riley and Racquel, along with special family friends, Lupe and daughter, Amanda Rios. Marvin is also survived by his sister-in-law and husband, Elsie and James Tremie; niece and husband, Felicia and Doug Burgess, their children Laurin, Elayna and Alyssa; nephew, Chris Tremie, his children Cade and Reagan; and brother-in-law and wife, Buddy and Juanita Pierce, and his daughter and husband, Katrina and Kelly Bounds, her son and daughter, John McClinton and Danielle Mitchell. There will never be anyone to replace “Uncle Marvin” and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 26, 2006, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Services will be held Monday, November 27, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel with Pastor Pam Werrell officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Giddings City Cemetery, Giddings, Texas.

Pallbearers are James Tremie, Vincent Kruemcke, Roy Kruemcke, Jr., James Christiansen, Jr., Charles Christiansen, Jr. and Steve Roberts.
