Mary Helen Cade

Mary Helen Cade, 77, of Brenham, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at Scott & White Hospital-Brenham.

She was born January 24, 1935, in Independence, Texas, to Charles F. Jr. and Mary (Buerger) Schulte. She was baptized March 30, 1935, at St. John Lutheran Church Prairie Hill by Rev. Paul Gogolin and confirmed in 1949, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill by Rev. A.M. Fiedler, where she remained a life long member. Mary Helen was a 1951 graduate of Brenham High School and attended Blinn College. On August 12, 1956, she was married to William “Buddy” Cade at St. Matthew Lutheran by Rev. H.C. Ziehe. She was secretary to the city manager of Arlington, Texas. After moving to Bryan, she worked as the bookkeeper for Cade Automobile Dealerships and later was co-owner with her husband of Washington County Tractor Company in Brenham. In 1997 they made their home in Brenham.

In spite of medical problems of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, Mary Helen was committed to serving others. She was a caregiver for her family. While at Brenham Rest Home, her room was a gathering place for residents and staff. She always took an interest in others, making them feel loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Thomas Schulte.

Survivors include her brother, F.C. “Sonny” Schulte and wife Doris, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Schulte and Ann McKnight, brother-in-law, Richard Cade, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 2 at 2 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel with Rev. Virgil Pecht officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers are F.C. “Sonny” Schulte, Darrell Schulte, Russell Schulte, Michael Schulte, Mark Schulte, Derrick Schulte, Keaton Schulte, Gabe Schulte, McKenna Schulte, Natasha Schulte, Casey Schulte, Sarah Schulte, James Becker and Charles Schulte. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Bothe, Geraldine Gloyna, Lori Dehmer, Judy Kettrich, Laura Wright, Mark and Carol Jensen, Lorenz and Mary Meschewitz, Clarence and Liz Herzog, Charles and Kay Janner, Morris “Bubba” Brewton, Barbara Kramer and staff and residents of the Brenham Rest Home.

Memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or the charity of choice.
