Mary was born in Houston, Texas on August 14, 1943, to parents Edwin Boortz, Sr. and Rosie Mary (Strahan) Boortz. She was baptized on August 31, 1944 at the North Side Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas. In 1965, she was baptized at All Saints Catholic Church in Houston, Texas.

From 1949-1952 Her family moved back and forth between Houston and Brenham. Finally in 1954, they returned to Brenham, and she attended the remainder of her elementary years (5th-8th) at Prairie Hill School. She graduated from Brenham High School on May 29, 1961 with honors. She then attended one year at Blinn Jr. College in Brenham, Texas.

On June 26, 1965, she married Clemence “Clem” John Kubeczka in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Chappell Hill. They moved to Houston, and lived there until October of 2000.

She held many jobs during her time in Houston. She worked at Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, Gulf Oil Company, Texas Commerce Bank, Yancey-Hausman & Associates. She worked at Yancey-Hausman for 11 years and that is where she learned to do payroll and Human Resource work. When she and Clem moved back to Brenham in 2000, she was employed with Trinity Medical Center as Payroll/AP/HR Clerk. She really enjoyed her time there, but after 6 years and 10 months, on November 16, 2007, she retired.

She served as Secretary for the Mound Hill School Reunion for 3 years. She was also a member of the Washington County Genealogical Society where she served as Vice-President, and also as a volunteer working on cemetery records. She really loved being a part of that group.

Besides genealogy, she loved reading, quilting, scrapbooking, working jigsaw puzzles and Sudoku puzzles. She also loved sitting on the patio and watching the birds and squirrels. Another hobby was riding in the country and visiting old cemeteries.
