Obituary

Mary L Schulz, 76, passed away on April 14, 2021. Mary was born in Burton, Texas on October 19, 1944 to Toney and Adeline Mantey. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith February 11, 1945. She was later confirmed March 30, 1958; both at First Lutheran Church, Somerville, Tx. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years Lonnie Schulz Jr; her brothers Edwin Mantey and Clarence Mantey, sister Esther Neinstedt, brother in law George Hold, sister in law Delia Mantey, nephew Ricky Mantey and his wife Connie and cousin Rufus Lange, Jr. Mary is survived by her son Jeffery Schulz, daughter Debra Wagner and her husband Daniel, grandsons Chandler and his wife Sarah and Marshall Wagner, great grandson, Jameson Wagner, brother Herbert Mantey and his wife Ida Jean; brothers and sisters in law, Kathleen Wiemken, Carol Hold, Lenora Bliznak and her husband Vincent, Lorena Schroeder and her husband Roy B, Dorothy Mantey, Floyd “Jack” Schulz, and Waldo Neinstedt; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary began her career with Brenham ISD as a cafeteria lady in 1976 at Brenham Middle School now known as Community Education. She became a manager at Brenham Intermediate School now known as Krause Elementary shortly after the campus opened. She retired from Brenham ISD in 2006 after 30 years of service. As you can guess she was an amazing cook who never allowed you to leave her house hungry. Once Mary settled into retirement she loved gardening and had a very green thumb. Her flowers were always so beautiful and brought so much joy to the many people that have passed by her house or stopped to visit. She was also known for trying to feed the community with her fresh fruits and vegetables she worked hard at growing.

A visitation for Mary will be held on Friday, April 16, from 5pm to 7pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel located at 2300 Stringer St. Brenham, Texas. The funeral service will be on April 17, at 10am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill located at 8201 Old Gay Hill Rd., Brenham, Texas and will be officiated by Pastor Ken Weiss. The burial to follow at Prairie Lea cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Michael Mantey, Mark Mantey, Chandler Wagner, Marshall Wagner, Stephen Bliznak, and Ray Nienstedt. Honorary pallbearers include: Jameson Wagner, James Mantey, Donald Craig Mantey, Tony Mantey, Robert Mantey, Waldine Wickel, Connie Sebesta, Michelle Goeke, Ryan Schroeder, Robert Hold, and David and Pam King.

Memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, 8201 Old Gay Hill Rd., Brenham, Texas.
