Mary Sklar

Mary Sklar, 94, of Brenham passed away May 21, 2024 with family by her side.

Mary was born August 14, 1929 in Navasota, Texas to Alex and Rachel (Castillo) Ybarra. Mary attended Navasota schools and later worked on the family farm in Chappell Hill. Mary worked at the City Café in Brenham before she became an Inspector at the Cotton Mill. Mary married Lawrence Robert Sklar on May 17, 1980 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Latium.

Mary had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help others in any way she could. Mary loved her family dearly and enjoyed family gatherings. Mary was known for being a great cook. She loved a great game of bingo and dominoes. Mary enjoyed the outdoors and loved to fish with family.

Preceding Mary in death are husband; parents; siblings Sylvia Hernandez, Joe Ybarra, Nick Ybarra, Dorothy Sierra, Rosie Vela, Tom Ybarra and sister-in-law Mary Ybarra.

Left to cherisher her memory are siblings Lucille (Robert) Buchanan and Josie Lynch; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial for Mary will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic of Latium with Father Ed Kucera officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery
