Obituary

Mary Flentge Tockhorn passed away Monday morning, November 23rd. She was 88 years old.

She was born July 23, 1932 in the Wesley area to Otto and Ella Priesmeyer Flentge. She was baptized in Salem Lutheran Church and confirmed there by Rev. Mohr.

On December 7, 1952 she was married to Monroe Fred Tockhorn by Rev. W.C. Poehlmann. They moved around throughout the United States and though that took her away from her family in Brenham she enjoyed the places they lived. They settled in Freer, Texas in 1969 and lived there until 1988 when Brenham became home again. Moving back to Brenham gave her the ability to be with the loved ones she had been away from years earlier. Mary was so glad to be back around her brothers and sisters after returning home. She took pride in all her nieces and nephews as if they were her own and loved telling stories about them as she watched them all grow up. Being around cousins or old friends was always a breath of fresh air for her. Moving back also gave her and Monroe the ability to make a lot of polka dances and festivals that they had missed out on being away from Brenham. She loved listening to polka music almost as much as her love for church hymns. She worked in retail with clothing and plants and enjoyed meeting people and the friendships she made. Besides her family and church her true passions were gardening and growing plants, animals and crafting both sewing and crocheting. She was constantly wanting to sew or craft even when her hands made it difficult in her last couple of years. Her love of dogs, cats and plants has definitely been passed down to the family.

Mary is survived by her son, Jeff Tockhorn, and his wife, Michelle, and her grandson, Daniel, and his soon to be wife, Madalynn. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and a few cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Fred and Elsie Mueller Tockhorn. Her brothers Ernst, Milton (LaRuth), Otto (Irene) and sisters Alma Wensel (Rubin), Helen Dannhaus (Raymond) and Dorothy Felscher (William).

Funeral services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer Street, Brenham (979-836-3611). Memories may be shared at www.BrenhamMemorialChapel.com.

To promote safety, an outdoor only graveside service will be held Sunday, November 29th, at 2:00 p.m. at Zionsville Lutheran Church.
