Obituary

Michael Lewis Pitts, a lifelong Texas bachelor passed from his earthly life on May 10, 2014 after a short struggle with cancer at age 66 years.
Born on February 19, 1948 at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston to Sam Knox Pitts, Sr. and Doris Welch Pitts, Michael enjoyed life with gusto, a wry sense of humor, a love of good food, friends and family, symphonic music, show tunes, etc. An intelligent and fun loving student, he graduated from Milby High School-Houston. He was drafted to the army afterwards but was medically discharged from boot camp. Eventually, he was a part- time college student at UT-Arlington from 1977-1982 while working as a self-employed graphic designer and consultant in Arlington. Due to two strokes which severely limited his activities, he returned to his childhood home in Houston to live with his parents in the early 1990’s until his death.

Preceded in death by his loving parents and a number of loving aunts and uncles, Michael leaves behind his sister, Linda and husband Alfred, brother, Sam, Jr., Aunt Beverly; nephews, Christopher and Rome , niece Carrie and their respective children. Having never married, he was so proud to be an uncle and expressed his love to each of them.

Our family gratefully thanks his long-time caring neighbors, personal physician, Dr. John Levins and staff, the Brenham Nursing/ Rehabilitation Home and the Brazos Valley Hospice nurses in Brenham, Texas for their loving care.

As per Michael’s wishes and direction, cremation will take place under the direction of Brenham Memorial Chapel in Brenham, Texas. A celebration of Life service will be planned later when all family can attend.

In lieu of any floral arrangements, the family requests that memorials be donated to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 E. Blue Bell Rd., Brenham, Texas 77833, a charity or church of your choice in memory of Michael L. Pitts.
