Obituary
Milton Mohr Haack, 97, of Brenham, Texas passed away peacefully on April 11, 2021. Milton was born on September 24, 1923 in Brenham, Texas to Charles and Minnie “Mohr” Haack. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham on December 25, 1923 by Pastor F.H.C. Stolz. He was confirmed January 22, 1950 at Memorial Lutheran Church in Texas City, Texas by Rev. Henry Engling. His confirmation verse was Romans 5:1.
He was one of 6 brothers and attended Brenham schools. He graduated from Brenham High School in May 1941. He met Evelyn Studhalter at the Gay Hill dance hall and married her on May 1, 1944 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Riverside, California just before leaving overseas for military duty.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp. in the China-Burma-India Division. He flew 34 missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal and was honorably discharged. Upon his return, he went to work for Republican Oil Company now Marathon in Texas City, Texas. He was an electrician and instrument worker and retired after 34 years. While in Texas City the family were members of Memorial Lutheran Church and very active in church activities.
Upon retirement, he and Evelyn moved back to Brenham to farm and ranch. They joined St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, where he served on the council and as church president for many years. Now his home church is Abiding Word Lutheran Church. Milton’s favorite pastimes included fishing in the Brazos River, dancing, gardening, and raising cattle on the farm. He was a member of the American Legion Post 48, V.F.W. and Sons of Hermann.
Milton is preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Minnie Mohr Haack, his Mother and Father in law; Otto and Clara Studhalter, brothers; Charles Jr. and his wife Nora Haack, William Julius “W.J.” and his wife Mildred, Albert “Pete” and his wife Alma Faye, Herbert and Irvin Lee Haack, Brothers in law; Alvin “Pete” and his wife Adeline Studhalter and Edward “Mouse” Studhalter, Sister in law; Walline and her husband Olan Seale and nephews; Jack and Charles “Buster” Haack III. Milton is survived by his wife of 76 years; Evelyn (Studhalter) Haack, his daughters; Jean and her husband Gene King and Janis Broussard, grandchildren; Debra and her husband Matt Rath, Valerie and her husband Kevin Hoffpauir, and Stephen Broussard and Christi Sabin, great-grandchildren; Riley and Wyatt Rath, Reed and his wife Rachel and Reagan Hoffpauir, Mason and Emery Broussard, sister in law; Judy Studhalter, brother and sister in law; Edwin “Buck” and Annie Mae Studhalter and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Milton’s caregivers; Tina Richmond, Darleen Williams, Birdie Tyler and Cherrelyn McBride along with the special nurses from Brazos Valley Hospice; Hailey, Truvy and Jenny.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Riley and Wyatt Rath, Reed Hoffpauir, Mason Broussard, Bruce Luerson and James Studhalter. Honorary pallbearers include: Jerry Haack, Steve Mallon, Gene King, Emery Broussard, Reagan Hoffpauir, Don Lee Studhalter and Edwin “Buck” Studhalter.
Visitation for Milton will be Tuesday, April 13, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel located at 2300 Stringer St. Brenham, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, beginning at 2:00 pm at Abiding Word Lutheran Church with Pastor Martin Moore officiating, located at 464 Oak Tree Crossing Dr. Brenham, Texas. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery and fellowship gathering back at Abiding Word Lutheran Church.
