Obituary

Minnie Schwettmann, 100, and widow of William Schwettmann died at Park Place Nursing Home in Georgetown, Texas on July 14, 2008.

Minnie was born on September 23, 1907 in New Wehdem, Texas. Minnie was one of seven children born to William and Anna Harms. The Rev. Gustav Szillat baptized Minnie on December 15, 1907 at St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem. She was confirmed on April 9, 1922 by Pastor Poehlmann. She attended the Austin County Public School in New Wehdem.

The Rev. Theo Streng married Minnie to William Schwettmann on January 28, 1939 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. They made their home in Brenham.

Her parents, husband and four sisters: Lillie Schroeder, Edna Krueger, Selma Vogelpohl and Bernita Kammerer and one brother Ernest Harms preceded Minnie in death.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Vicky Schwettmann of Georgetown; grandchildren, Alan Schwettmann and wife Brandy of Bastrop, Vicki and husband Gary McGuire of Georgetown, Carol and husband Jason Russell of Round Rock and Albert Gaitan of Austin. Great grandchildren include Megan Marie and Cole Alan McGuire; Danielle and Whitney Andrews; Kellsye Nicole and Jared Scott Russell; sister Elsa Becker and one cousin Louise Williams of Yoakum and numerous other relatives and friends.

In lieu of a visitation, family and friends may come by the funeral home and view Minnie and sign the register book.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Kammerer, Bill Vogelpohl, Henry Becker, John David Becker, James Becker and Harvey Krueger. Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Becker and Edward Krueger.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham or to one’s favorite charity.
