Obituary
Nettie Nitsche Linke of Brenham passed away on July 9, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham, Texas. Mrs. Linke was born October 30, 1918 in Rural Shelby (Haw Creek), Texas the daughter of Henry Karl and Frances Jurcak Nitsche.
Nettie attended school in Oldenberg Schools.
She was baptized and confirmed on the same day, April 5, 1936, at Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome, Texas by Pastor T.M. Mansur.
On November 28, 1936 (Thanksgiving Day) she was married to Albert J. Linke at Salem Lutheran Church, Welcome, Texas by Pastor T.M. Mansur. They were married 61 years when God called Albert to his Eternal Home on December 9, 1996.
Nettie was a devoted wife and mother and worked with Albert on the farms in Bleiblerville and the Latium Community. She and Albert worked in both of the stores in Welcome and then in 1968 they moved to Brenham where they purchased a home. Nettie worked at New York Store, Perry Bros. (Downtown) and Savital Grocery Store retiring in 1990.
Nettie was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Quilting Bee and Mary Martha Ruth Women’s Bible Study Group. With her eyesight and hearing failing she looked forward to her visits with Pastor Walt Schindehette. Nettie loved to bake, cook, sew and care for her flowers. She loved family gatherings and had an amazing talent of putting “coffee” and “lunch” on the table for anyone that dropped in. She loved her coffee. She always had homemade cookies and was noted for her Molasses Cookies.
Her survivors include: son, Albert L. Linke and wife Caroline, grandchild Melisa Bosse and husband Ricky all of Brenham, great granddaughter Deanna Bosse of College Station, Daphne Byrne and husband Shawn, great grandchildren Nolan and Karly Byrne of Spring; son, Glenn R. Linke and wife Jeraldine (Jerri) of Burton, granddaughter Jan Rickmers and husband Brian, great grandchildren Maddie and Mason Rickmers of Cypress; daughter, Gladys Colburn and husband Barry of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, grandchildren Dr. Anne Schmidt and William A. Burnett and wife Jimin all of Birmingham; daughter Joyce Richter and husband James of Brenham, granddaughters Sara M. Thompson of Austin and Julie E. Richter of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law Nolan and Minnie Mae Nitsche of Brenham and brother-in-law Adolph Linke of Bloomington and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert J. Linke, an infant son, Dean Alan Linke, two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 5-7pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2013 from Christ Lutheran Church, 1104 Carlee Drive, Brenham, Texas with Pastor Mark Groves, officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham, Texas immediately following the service.
Serving as pallbearers are Ricky Bosse, Shawn Byrne, Brian Rickmers, Doyle Nitsche, Olin Linke, Darrell Jacob and Steve Rogers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
