Obituary

Nora Lee (Bastian) Martin, age 86 of Brenham, Texas, went peacefully home to be with our Lord on October 23, 2019.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 4-6 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham on Monday, October 28, 2019. Rosary is at 1:00 p.m. and Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Kristopher Fuchs, celebrant. Interment will follow at the New Ulm Cemetery.

Nora was born in New Ulm, Texas on November 11, 1932 to Otto and Anna (Bader) Bastian. She was raised in New Ulm and then moved to Houston with her sister. Nora met the love of her life, Clarence Martin, in Houston on a bowling league. They were married on June 1, 1957. They lived in Houston where they raised their two daughters, Beverly and Valerie. Nora was a housewife until the girls were older, then went into banking as a proof operator which she enjoyed. When Clarence retired, they moved to Brenham, Texas. They enjoyed traveling on bus tours and taking cruises, visiting all 50 states and several European countries. Nora also enjoyed going dancing, playing dominos and crocheting.

Nora is survived by her husband, Clarence, celebrating 62 years of marriage; daughter Beverly and husband Melvin Dierschke of Sealy, daughter Valerie and husband Chuck Grahmann of Victoria. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Laura Dierschke (Sr. Amata Filia), Karen (Dierschke) Morin, Ross Grahmann and Rachel Grahmann; 2 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Grayson Morin; sisters-in-law Carol Martin, Pat Followell, Jane Wilkens and Dolores Martin; brothers-in-law Frank Martin and wife Norita, and Lee Roy Kulow along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Nora is preceded in death by her parents, brother Jesse Bastian, sisters Geraldine Kulow, Myrtle Melcer and two grandsons Karl and Kurt Grahmann.

Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham.
