Obituary

Norwood Lange, 89 of Brenham, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 3rd with his family by his side. Norwood was born on May 27th, 1932, in Burton, Texas to Herman and Lena Lange.

The Lange family moved to Brenham where Norwood attended Brenham High School. He graduated in 1951 and went on to further his education at Blinn College and then Sam Houston State University where he graduated with a degree in physical education. As a somewhat promising talent on the baseball diamond and equally talented on the basketball court, it would ultimately be an offer to go to the pitching mound for Blinn College, that would launch his love of baseball over the next half-dozen years. Norwood went on to play baseball for the U.S. Army, college, semi-pro, and professional teams. After graduating college, he began his business career at PPG Industries in Houston.

On August 22nd, 1959, he was united in marriage to Barbara Dawna Browning. In 1964 he purchased the John K. Casey Insurance Agency in Beaumont and remained there for 15 years. It was at this time that his reluctance to enter the golf game turned into a great love. He traded the glove and ball for a set of golf clubs, and he was hooked. It was at this time that his return to Brenham in 1979 led he and his family to a 15-acre track with a 40-year-old house adjacent to golf course. He purchased Hollemann-Reed Insurance Agency which later became Lange and Associates. He remained active in business, served on the board of the Brenham Country Club, on the church council of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Board of Directors of Blinn College for 24 years. He also served on the Advisory Board of Prime Bank of Houston and in 2007 was selected by the Blinn College Ex-Student Association to receive the Outstanding Alumnus Award.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara of sixty-two years. He is survived by his two children Lyndi, Mark and his wife Renna, and two grandchildren Joshua and Haley.

A memorial service will be held Saturday April 23 at 10:00 am at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 305 W. Third Street in Brenham, Texas 77833, a reception will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Paul’s/Columbarium or Blinn College Foundation/Lange Scholarship.
