Obituary
Ora Nell (Wensel) Chernosky passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 in Brenham, Texas.
Ora Nell was born August 3,1928 to Reinhardt and Alma (Dierking) Wensel. She was baptized on November 25,1928 at St. James Lutheran Church, New Wehdem, Texas. She was confirmed on March 29, 1942. Ora Nell married Dennis E. Chernosky on October 16, 1948.
Ora Nell was a talented seamstress and sewed for people to bring in extra money for her young family. After her children were in school, she sewed for Garth of Texas, a women’s clothing factory. After the factory closed, she started her career in retail sales working at Schwartz Department Store, then later at Bon Worth, a ladies’ clothing store, and finally in the fabric department at Walmart Hempstead for almost 30 years. She made many friends who also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting as she did. She gifted many people with her creations. She was a member of the local quilters’ guild and was honored in 2023 at the Annual Quilt Show held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Hempstead.
Ora Nell is survived by son, Q.H. “Bubba” Chernosky and wife, Patricia; daughter, JoRetta “Jo” Parker. Surviving Grandchildren are Wesly Chernosky and wife, Joyce; Amy Uselton and husband, Jason; Steven Chernosky and wife, Vicki; Sara Parker and husband, Jose Velez; and 3 Step-Grandchildren. She is also survived by 8 Great Grandchildren and 15 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Visitation for Ora Nell will be at Brenham Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 5 pm until 7 pm. Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11am at Prairie Lea Cemetery, 1004 Prairie Lea St., Brenham, Texas 77833.
