Obituary

Osborn B. “Ozzie” Bennett, 82, of Brenham, Texas died Sunday, May 20, 2007 from complications of Alzheimer’s.

His love of the military began with ROTC at Austin High School in Houston. He attended Texas A&M for only a short time before enlisting in the Navy in 1943, but always considered himself an Aggie. His Navy service involved him in meteorology and upon discharge, he was employed by Houston office of the US Weather Bureau.

He became a member of the 147th Fighter group, Texas Air National Guard, Ellington Field, as Commander of the 111th Weather flight. His group was activated during the Korean conflict. He remained a member of the Texas ANG until retirement in July 1960 as a Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1953, McEwen and Bennett Inc. was formed as a manufacturer’s representative of plumbing materials. This successful partnership continued for 30+ years.

Survivors include his wife Cora Lee West Bennett, children Mindy Bennett Wilson, Mary Bennett Yarnell (Tom), Robert Osborn Bennett (Jill); grandchildren Jeremy Wilson and Julie Wilson Maxwell, Amy and Emily Yarnell, Ryan Osborn and Marshall Bennett; great-grandsons Riley Osborn Bennett and Cameron Bennett.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 22, 2007 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and funeral services Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Rev. Sam Duree will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
