Patty attended Strong Vincent High School and was trained in cosmetology. She had her own business as a hairdresser in Erie, Pennsylvania for ten years. She then took a position at Saint Vincent Hospital, initially as a nurse aide and later as a ward clerk entering doctor’s orders on computer. She worked at the hospital for about eight years before relocating to Brenham, Texas. Here, she married Ken French in 1985.
