Patricia Wynn Head

Patricia Lavator Wynn was born March 16, 1945, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, to Mary Evelyn Batchelor Wynn and Ralph “Jack” Balou Wynn. She grew up in Tarboro and graduated from Tarboro High School in 1963, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, Future Teachers of America, and Le Cercle Français. She served as vice president of her class, as a member of the Queen’s Court, and on the yearbook staff and student council. She learned to play the piano as a small child and enjoyed playing for her lifetime.

Trisha attended Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. She earned a degree in mathematics and minored in music, graduating in 1967. While a student at Meredith, she met Mickey Philip Head of Matthews, NC, who was a student at North Carolina State University. On July 1, 1967, Trisha and Mickey were married at First Baptist Church in Tarboro.

Trisha and Mickey initially lived in Charlotte, NC, and Opelousas, LA, for a few years and moved to Perth, Australia, in 1971, where their daughter Kimberly was born in 1972. They loved their time in Australia and made a number of close friends, with whom they are in contact today. Trisha worked as a math teacher at a girls’ boarding school. After Australia, they moved to New Orleans, LA, where their son Andrew was born in 1974. After a few years in New Orleans; Bartlesville, OK; Fort Worth, TX; and Lafayette, LA; the family moved to Arlington, TX, in 1979, where Kimberly and Andrew grew up and attended school all the way through high school. They enjoyed skiing trips to Colorado, Utah, California, Nevada, and Vermont for many years; Trisha and Mickey had learned to ski as adults and became proficient skiers. The family liked to escape the Texas summer heat and go to the mountains in New Mexico. When the children were in middle school, Trisha worked as a math teacher for the Arlington Independent School District. Kimberly was always grateful for Trisha’s help with math homework, especially complicated “word problems.”

In 1993, when their children were both in college, Trisha and Mickey moved to Raleigh for a few years and opened a gourmet food and coffee store, but they did not stay away from Texas for long. In 1996, they moved to Houston, where Mickey lives now.

Trisha then worked for 11 years as a flight attendant for Continental Airlines, which helped facilitate travel, a pastime she and Mickey relished, and retired in 2009. Trisha and Mickey enjoyed many trips together, including visits to all seven continents. They spent time in Newport Beach, CA, and Palm Springs, CA, for a number of years. They especially enjoyed river cruises in Europe along the Danube River and the Rhine River. Trisha made time for exercise; she walked a lot and attended “SilverSneakers” exercise classes. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends. Trisha was a proper letter writer and corresponded faithfully with family and friends for years, especially at Christmastime. She very much appreciated good manners and correct grammar.

Trisha delighted in the birth of her first grandchild, Anne, in Atlanta, GA, in 2007. Her second grandchild, Gabrielle, was born in Jackson, TN, in 2008, and her third grandchild, Elizabeth, was born in Atlanta in 2009. Trisha is known as “Nana” to her granddaughters, who loved spending time with her.

In 2014, Trisha and Mickey bought land in Washington County, Texas, and built a farmhouse. Trisha adored spending time at the farm on the weekends, watching the cows graze and catching glimpses of wildlife such as jackrabbits and deer. She found the farm a very peaceful place. Her granddaughters especially enjoyed visiting their grandparents at the farm.

Trisha was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Mickey; daughter Kimberly Anne Head Amos, her husband Anthony Lewis Amos, Jr., and their children Anne Beaty Amos and Elizabeth Wynn Amos, of Decatur, GA; son Andrew Philip Head, his wife Terri Jeniece Stanfield Head, and their daughter Gabrielle Sage Head, of Jackson, TN; brother Ralph “Jack” Balou Wynn, Jr. and his wife Deborah Byrd Wynn of Johns Creek, GA, and their daughter Meredith Ruffin Wynn Richling of Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law Nancy Ann Head Dixon of Chapel Hill, NC; sister-in-law Eunice Carolyn Head Ritchie of Greensboro, NC; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Trisha spent her last few weeks in Houston Hospice, and the family is grateful for their special care.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 3pm at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
