Obituary
Paul Harrington Addington, 75 of Brenham, TX, formerly of Houston, TX passed away peacefully at home September 22, 2008. He was born December 11, 1932 in Oklahoma City, OK. He proudly served the United States Navy during The Korean War and received the National Defense, Good Conduct, United Nations and Korean Service Medals. His Honorable Discharge was received on June 1, 1955. Paul received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University in 1961 with a Registration to Practice in 22 states. On February 26, 1964 he married Betty Smith in Houston, TX. He established Paul H. Addington and Associates Architectural and Planning Services in 1976, which provided a wide range of fields including residential, multi-unit housing, recreational, institutional, office buildings and retail in Texas and the Midwest. Paul practiced architecture for 28 years and his many projects included The Hilshire Office Building, Katy Hollow Office Building, Aydam Office Building and Metro North Office Park. Paul served as an architectural planner and building official for the city of Hedwig Village. He also served the city of Bunker Hill as a council member, committee member for review and construction and a consultant for numerous projects.
Paul was an avid lover of the Old West and was most comfortable in his cowboy boots and his Tom Nix hat. He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, life member of the Houston Farm and Ranch Club and a member of The Salt Grass Trail Ride Association. He also had a passion for all kinds of sports. He particularly loved high school football. He was a loving father that spent many hours coaching and guiding to instill a positive attitude and competitive spirit. He was a member of Brenham Presbyterian Church and former member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Paul and Mary Johanna Coker Addington and by his brother Charles Addington. Survivors are his wife Betty Addington of Brenham; sons Paul Craig Addington and his wife Helga Marie, Derek Brown Addington and Todd Duke Addington all of Houston; sisters-in-law Karolyn Addington of Santa Maria, CA, Nannetta Brown Smith of New Orleans, LA; nephew Scott Addington and wife Kaye; nieces Kim Vargo and husband Jim, Sharry Boucher and husband Jon.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 pm to 7 pm Thursday September 25th at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Services will be held at 1 pm on Friday September 26th at Brenham Presbyterian Church, 900 South Jackson Street, Brenham, TX 77833. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jon Cornelius, Fred Gordon, Ernie Cole, Dr. Edward D. Johnson, Victor Meinkoth, Bob Beeler and Jack Hillman.
