Obituary

Pearlie Schaefer Becker passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. Pearlie was born January 26, 1924 in Welcome, Texas, daughter of Albert and Alvina Maurer Schaefer. She was baptized August 24, 1925 at Welcome Lutheran Church by Rev. Jacob Appel and was confirmed April 10, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill by Rev. Paul Gogolin. She was educated in public schools in Troop, Texas, and Washington County, graduating from Brenham High School in 1941. Pearlie worked briefly in West Columbia but returned to Brenham to marry her sweetheart Albert Becker at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill on December 9, 1942 by Rev. Paul Gogolin.

During Pearlie's lifetime she served many roles. While raising two sons, Tommie Wayne and Hershel Allen, she also maintained the household and assisted Albert with their family farm in Chappell Hill. Pearlie was an accomplished seamstress and sewed beautiful dresses and gowns for family, friends and acquaintances. She loved to prepare and serve her family’s favorite dishes, especially during the holidays. While residing in Chappell Hill, she also worked at Clarann Nursery, and after moving to Brenham, furthered her horticultural career at Ellison's Greenhouses. Pearlie was a dedicated caretaker of Albert during his illness until his death on January 17, 1978. Her pride and joy were her boys, daughters-in-law, and her four grandchildren. She enjoyed Bible study, was very knowledgeable of scripture, and was always available to help her sisters locate scripture. Pearlie enjoyed gardening, quilting, card games, puzzles, and a challenging math problem.

Pearlie was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. She will be remembered by many for her countless hours of quilting with fellow St. John Lutheran Church quilters for fundraising projects and worthy causes. She also enjoyed delivering worship service tapes to members not able to attend services, assisting with communion for nursing home residents, and volunteering for Bread Partners.

Her sisters will be forever grateful for her dedicated role in their lives during their mother’s illness. [Matthew 25:21 Well done, thou good & faithful servant...]

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, husband, daughter-in-law Martha, brothers-in-law William Moore and Ed Lehmann.
