Peter "Pete" Mazurkiewicz

Peter “Pete” Mazurkiewicz passed away surrounded by his spouse of 67 years and his three children on April 19, 2022, at Kruse Village in Brenham, Texas at the age of 89. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill and he attended Pulaski School and St. Stanislaus Catholic School in Chappell Hill. Pete was baptized, received first communion, made the act of confession, confirmed, and married at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. His great grandfather and namesake Piotr (Peter) Jozwiak was one of six parish leaders that established St. Stanislaus in 1889.

“Mr. Pete” (as many affectionally called him) or “PoPo” by his grandchildren was a farmer, rancher, and businessman (construction, custom hay baling). He was born in Chappell Hill, Texas on May 22, 1932, to Steve and Frances Józwiak Mazurkiewicz, the middle son of three boys. His older brother Henry Mazurkiewicz preceded him in death, but he is survived by his younger brother Al Mazurkiewicz. Pete was born and raised in rural Washington County on a dryland cotton farm, and he knew the meaning of manual labor. His work ethic was second to none and he understood the value of faith, family and friends from his parents and grandparents. When Pete was 18, he left the farm to find employment in Houston, but he came home every weekend to help his parents. He and his brothers continued to help their parents until they passed on. Throughout his life, he never stopped farming or ranching as it was in his blood. His family had always been involved in agriculture and there is nothing Pete loved more than living and working on the farm. Pete and his wife Pauline lived on a part of the original farm his grandfather purchased in 1913 and he was raising cattle and hay to this day. Pete did not have a formal education, but he was smart, innovative, and creative that stemmed from his parental teachings, life experiences and rural upbringing. He was proud of all three of his children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition, there was no doubt he was proud of his Polish heritage and his Catholic faith as he was fluent in Polish, and he was a devout Christian. The legacy he leaves behind will be his beautiful family, a strong work ethic, faithful Christian values, love of his Polish heritage and many loving friends.

He is survived by his loving wife Pauline Kopec’ Mazurkiewicz, his son and daughter-in-law Dr. Jim & Kathy Mazurkiewicz, his daughter Deborah Mazurkiewicz and his son and daughter-in-law Ronnie & Karen Mazurkiewicz; six grandchildren James Mazurkiewicz, Kathy Ann Mazurkiewicz, Cody Mazurkiewicz, Clinton Mazurkiewicz and wife Melissa, Ashley Mazurkiewicz Dodd and husband Cody, and Stephanie Mazurkiewicz; three great grandchildren: Colby Mazurkiewicz, Jason Mazurkiewicz, Keaton Dodd.

A rosary and visitation will be held on Friday, April 22 with the visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. and the rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill with Father Jozef Musiol officiating. Interment will follow at Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery and a funeral meal (stypa) will be served in the St. Stanislaus Parish Hall following the graveside service.

Pallbearers will be: James Mazurkiewicz, Clinton Mazurkiewicz, Cody Mazurkiewicz, Eugene Józwiak, JJ Józwiak, Dale Józwiak. Honorary pallbearers will be: Kathy Ann Mazurkiewicz, Ashley Mazurkiewicz Dodd, Stephanie Mazurkiewicz, Colby Mazurkiewicz, Jason Mazurkiewicz, Keaton Dodd.
