Obituary

Phyllis Hensen, 60 of Somerville, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018.

Visitation will be Monday, February 5th from 5-7 p.m., with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 6th at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brenham. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Somerville.

Phyllis was born June 23, 1957 in Houston to Ike “Frog” and Carolyn Sue (Johnson) Shelburne. She grew up in Somerville and participated in barrel racing. She was a graduate of Somerville High School. On July 19, 1980, Phyllis married Franklin Hensen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She did secretarial work at the Washington County Court House. Later, she joined her husband at Hensen Energy Services. Phyllis was involved with the Burleson County 4-H Club. She became a 4-H leader, especially helping youth with rabbit projects. She served on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Committee, becoming secretary and then chairman of the Rabbit Committee. Phyllis was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Somerville, where she served on the Altar Committee.

Phyllis was known for her kindness and patience, especially working with youth. She loved watching A&M football.

She was preceded in death by her father, son Justin Hensen, father-in-law Frank Hensen and brother-in-law Michael Hensen.

Her loving family includes: husband, Franklin Hensen; son, Jason Hensen; mother, Carolyn Sue Shelburne; mother-in-law, Dotty Jo Hensen; brothers-in-law, Vincent Hensen and fiancé Cindy Beckendorf and Shawn Hensen; nieces, Amanda Hensen, Kelsey Hensen, Victoria Hensen; nephews, Chad Hensen and wife Casey, Christian Hensen, Zacquari Hensen, Cody Beckendorf and wife Katie, and Trevor Beckendorf; great niece Brynlee Beckendorf; great nephews Sawyer Beckendorf, and Tristan Hensen.

Pallbearers will be Randy Schwartz, Layne Boyd, Charlie Mott, Randy Slater, Joe Shepherd, Garry McAninch, Richard Wells and Ken Willis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Pat Woods, Bob Henneke. Special friends include Judy Slater, Susan Wells, Ramona McAninch, Debbie Mott, Deb Willis and Carol Shepherd.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund or Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship Fund.
