Rachel (Gonzalez) Jackson, 77, passed away on January 24, 2018, surrounded by loved ones at her home in Brenham, Texas.
Rachel was born on June 22, 1940, in Alamo, Texas, to parents Thomas and Santos (Cantu) Gonzalez. She grew up with three brothers, and enjoyed spending time with her family. Rachel attended school in Alamo, where she played flute in the band and later attended Imperial Valley College in El Centro, California.
Rachel married Harold Lee Jackson on July 1, 1958, and raised three daughters. She held various jobs throughout the years, and even spent time as the acting mayor of Greers Ferry, Arkansas. Rachel was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was kind and compassionate, loved to cook for people and was “everybody’s grandma”. Rachel loved all living things and could be found caring for cats and other stray animals. She enjoyed bird watching and gardening and could make anything grow. She especially looked forward to spending time with family and her friends and volunteering at the Forever Young Resale Shop. Everyone at the Margaret E. Blizzard Senior Activity Center knew Rachel, and she enjoyed her time there making friends and memories. Rachel was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Brenham.
Rachel is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lee Jackson; parents, Thomas and Santos Gonzalez; and her brothers, Beto Gonzalez, Julio Gonzalez, and Enrique Gonzalez.
