Obituary

Robert Barnett Madden, Jr., age 63, passed away on July 28, 2020 after an eight year-long battle with a rare form of Dementia.

Robert was born on New Year’s Eve in 1956 to Robert Sr. and Audrey (Mayeux) Madden. He was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and remained a lifelong Louisiana native until moving to Texas in 2003.

Robert, known to friends as "Bobby", spent over 30 years with Winn-Dixie Supermarket where he held multiple jobs at once, starting from the bottom working his way up to Shipping and Logistics. While Winn-Dixie was his “real job”, his heart was in the U.S. Navy. Robert joined the reserves in 1991 and thoroughly enjoyed his time on duty. Robert was a cargo handler in Navy Battalion thirteen, NCHB-13. He was active duty from September 2005 until May 2006. As his health declined in the more recent years, Robert moved to Brenham, TX to be near his daughter and grandchildren.

Robert had a love for classic rock and had an extensive collection of vinyl records. He was always excited for any opportunity to go to a concert, especially his favorite band, Def Leppard! But his favorite concerts were those just blasting music in the living room with his grandkids who lovingly called him “Paw Paw Bob.”
Robert also enjoyed sports and was a loyal LSU Tiger fan and loves his New Orleans Saints (Geaux Tigers!).

As Robert’s dementia progressed, he slowly lost his ability to speak. While he was still able to speak, one of his favorite phrases and his reply to everything was “good stuff” which was taken up by his family as a sweet term of endearment in which they all continue to use daily.

In accordance with Robert’s wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes with be interred at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell, LA. The interment service with military honors will be scheduled at a later date.
His surviving family includes daughters, Melissa Madden Crow and Lauren Madden Smith as well as his son-in-laws Dean Crow and Chase Smith, who he loved like sons. His much-loved grandchildren are Cameron and Caden Crow and Payton, Zayne, and Madden Smith. His godson is Tyler Trahan. His surviving siblings are James "Bub" Vandrell, Louis "Lou" Dreis, Darren Madden, and Audrey Madden Erwin. Robert is preceded in death by siblings Louise "Tusi" Sissac and Barry Madden.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Kruse Village Nursing Home, for the excellent care they provided to Robert during his time as a resident. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Disabled American Veterans Organization in memory of Robert. www.DAV.org/donate
