Obituary

Robert “Bob” Cook was a native Houstonian, born June 13, 1929 and died August 8, 2018. He attended Jefferson Davis High School, University of Houston and South Texas College of Law. For 6 years, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp seeing action in Korea and receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Korean Presidential Citation Recognition.

Mr. Cook founded Petroleum Distributors of Texas, Inc. and Oil Sales of Texas, Inc. He was a former president of Texas Oil Marketers Association.

He was a member of Downtown Houston Rotary and served in the Texas Prison Ministry.

He lived most of his life in Houston and retired in Chappell Hill near Brenham.

Mr. Cook was a former member of Baptist Temple in Houston and currently a member of Brenham’s First Baptist Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, James Ocie and Lovie Hughes Cook and loving wife of 64 years Della Bassett Cook.

Surviving family: daughters, Catherine Cook of Chappell Hill, Karen Cook Awalt, husband Steve of Sugar Land; grandchildren, Laura Awalt Baartmans, husband Sjoerd, Kyle Awalt, Julie Awalt Peterson, husband Matthew; 8 great grandchildren, Steven Baartmans, Katelyn, Mackenzie and Jackson Awalt and Joseph, Michael, Abigail and Anna Peterson.

He loved his family dearly and enjoyed telling stories, horseback riding, building anything and music.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 11th from 3-5 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 12th at 2 p.m. in Brenham’s First Baptist Church, 303 North Market St., Brenham, TX 77833. Burial will be in Houston National Cemetery with graveside services Wednesday, August 15th at 11 a.m.
