Obituary

Ronald Chidester Smith 77, was received into the mighty hands of the Lord on July 28, 2021.

Ron was born January 10, 1944 in San Rafael, California to Mary Calvin Chidester and Ernest Leon Smith.

The Smith family eventually moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where Ron graduated from C.E. Byrd High School. He went on to Louisiana Tech University where he graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. His mother felt he would have graduated sooner if he hadn’t been such an enthusiastic Kappa Sig! Ron served his country in the United States Air Force doing Cryptographic Maintenance.

Ron enjoyed a long and successful career in water treatment projects for Brown and Root, Enron and most recently Worley-Parsons.

Ron is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Joan Hasskarl Smith, daughter Kathlena Smith Ruiz and her husband Raul and his son Jonathan Palmer Smith and his wife, Angela. He is also survived by Joan’s daughter Carrie Templeton and her husband Parker and Joan’s son Barrett Harrison and his wife Maria. Grandchildren surviving him are Alexandre Leonne Ruiz, Kenna Alexandra and Scarlett Arabella Simmons-Smith, Tyler and Katy Templeton and Maya Claire Harrison. Also surviving Ron are his sister Jill Tatum and her husband Bill and his brother Dan Smith and his wife Edna. Ron is also survived by his sister-in-law Patty Smith and preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lee Smith.

Ron, our gentle giant loved the Lord. He loved his family, snow skiing, good food, reading Science Fiction and Bassett Hounds. Ron was a man of integrity and he will be greatly missed.

In light of the Covid resurgence we will honor Ron in a small private ceremony and
appreciate your understanding of our need to exercise responsibility.

Anyone wishing to honor Ron may make a donation to Hospice Brazos Valley.
