Obituary

Ronald Allen Shyer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away
peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the age of eighty-five. He was a true gentleman, a devoted
husband, proud father and grandfather who treasured time with his family and friends. He
will always be remembered for his kindness and generous heart.

Ron was born on August 20, 1940, in Vandalia, IL to Gene and Alma Shyer. Growing up, he enjoyed basketball, baseball, and was an accomplished trumpet player who took pride in
playing Taps for veteran memorial services. Ron and his wife, Ann, were high school
sweethearts and enjoyed over sixty-three years of marriage. They traveled the world
together, collecting stories and friends wherever they went.

After being the first member of his family to graduate from college, Ron began his career in the oil & gas business, followed by 13 years at Caterpillar in Decatur, IL, creating lifelong family friendships. Ron also served his country with honor in the U.S. Army and Air Force Reserves, a reflection of his deep sense of duty, patriotism, and commitment to others.

Ron later became a partner in the family oil business before retiring and moving to Cedar Park, TX in 1997. Ron and Ann cherished their time in Cedar Park, along with their wonderful neighbors and numerous friends from church, and Ron always looked forward to fellowship with the Thursday morning coffee group. As a mentor, his influence extended beyond his family, leaving a lasting impression on friends, colleagues, and community members alike through many years as a scout leader, little league baseball coach, and an active church member and volunteer. He was very proud of introducing and organizing the “Breakfast with Santa” event for the children at their church.

In 2023, Ron and Ann moved to Brenham to be closer to family, and immediately felt
welcomed by their new church community at the First United Methodist Church.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judy Shyer.

Surviving are his wife, Ann; son, Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Kandace; son, Terry, and daughter-in-law, Ruth; grandchildren, Madison and Grant; sister, Carol Toth and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Visitation with the family will be at the Brenham Memorial Chapel, Saturday, April 11,
2026, from 1 - 2pm. A service to celebrate his life will be at 2pm, with a reception following.

A grave site service will be held at a date to be determined at the Mt. Zion Township
Cemetery, in Mt. Zion, Illinois.
