Obituary

Roy William “Roy Boy” Schmidt left this world to go to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Roy was born on March 14, 1957, to Willie and Lillie Mae (Draehn) Schmidt. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Salem where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended Kenney and Bellville Schools. He graduated from Bellville High School, class of 1975.

He worked at Harrison Farm Services and Tesco Industries. He began his driving career at Brenham Wholesale Grocery. In 1980 he suffered a stroke from a truck accident. After rehabilitation, he began to drive an 18 wheeler for Texas Fibers Industries. Driving an 18 wheeler was his passion. Later his health started to decline and could no longer drive the “big truck”. So he hopped in his pickup truck. He drove and drove some more. Pretty sure there very few roads in Texas that he had not traveled. He was known for blowing his horn and waving his arm out the window at everybody he met. He had a huge giving heart. He never met at stranger. They were always greeted with a wave and “how are you doing”. He had some special sayings, here are just a few, “Yaba Daba Do”, “Hey, Hey, Hey Hey!” “okie dokie”, “Whatts Happening” “Roll on Big Momma”, Whoop, There you go”, “Gear Jamma”, “Hunky Dory”, and “Merry Christmas” all year long. Sure going to miss hearing those sayings. He loved to collect Antiques. He would always ask Royce Draehn to bring him some Buckeyes when he came to see him.

The past 5 years have been difficult for Roy, but he NEVER once complained. He took the situations and made the best of them. He always had a big smile on his face. His last few years were spent at Care Inn of LaGrange. Every visit, we heard how much he loved that place and loved the people there. He was the “Care Inn Greeter”. Roy will be missed dearly, but NEVER forgotten.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Lillie Mae Schmidt.

Roy is survived by brother and sister-in law, Darrell & Michelle Schmidt. Sister and brother- in law, Janice & Bradley Hanath. Nephews and spouses, Brandon & Kirstie Hanath, Wyatt & Ashley Hanath, nephew Austin Hanath. Nephew Matt Wise & wife Norma, Niece Sarah Wise.
