Obituary

Shirley Ann Coufal Cmajdalka, 82, passed away on May 30, 2025 at Kruse Village in Brenham.

The daughter of Rueben and Rosalie (Fick) Coufal, she grew up in Willow Springs, Texas and was baptized at Industry Brethren Church.

She attended Fayetteville schools and was the Salutatorian of the graduating class of 1961. Following high school Shirley attended Sam Houston University.

She married Alois Frank Cmajdalka at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville on June 7, 1963, and they had 3 sons, Michael, Paul, and Blake. She was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2000, and after many rounds of treatment, achieved remission, and enjoyed many healthy years after.

Shirley enjoyed decorating cakes for her son’s events, exploring Europe with her Aunt Mae and travelling with Alois, gardening and canning, crossword puzzles, (always winning) Yahtzee and “Mexican Train”, and was forever a good sport accompanying her husband on many fishing and hunting trips. She was a dedicated Willowbrook Mall “Mall Walker” and enjoyed spending time with “the little people” until her move to Brenham in 2021, where she lived at Kruse Village and enjoyed playing bingo and visiting neighbors.

Shirley is survived by her sons Michael and wife, Shelly; Paul and wife, Kimberly; Blake and wife, Tulu. Sisters-in-law Charlene Wick of Hallettsville and Shirley Cmajdalka of Dallas, and Aunt Lillie Mae Kainer of Katy. Grandchildren, Jennifer and Chester Blessing, Andrew and Christine Cmajdalka, Macy Cmajdalka, Kyla & Reese Goebel, Hayley & Mike Wood, Zachary Cmajdalka, Emily Cmajdalka, Sohan Sarkar and Shreya Sarkar. Great-grandchildren Olivia and Sage Blessing, Harper and Hadley Cmajdalka, Lad, Hattie and Gemma Goebel, and Wyatt Wood.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Alois, parents Ruben and Rosalie, parent’s in-law Lad and Annie Cmajdalka, brother-in-law Lad E. Cmajdalka, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Annette & Robert Kovar and Lillian & Clarence Krenek.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 5th from 5:00p.m. until 7:00p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St, Brenham, Texas 77833.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 6th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 701 Church St, Brenham, Texas 77833. Interment will be held at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery in Fayetteville, Texas at 2:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Cmajdalka, Zachary Cmajdalka, Chester Blessing, Reese Goebel, Kris Kainer, Edward Krenek, Bo Wick and Mark Wick. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Wood, Sohan Sarkar, Danny Paulk, Richard Kovar and Scott Cmajdalka.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Brenham, St. John the Baptist Church of Fayetteville, or the charity of your choice.
