Obituary
Shirley Jean Abbott of College Station, Texas, passed away at St Joseph Regional Health Center, Bryan, August 29, 2012. She was born in Nenah, Wisconsin to Ladimer and Florence (Lepla) Hrudka on August 29, 1925. She married James A. Abbott of Elkhart, Indiana in 1946.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, and only brother Quinn L. Hrudka. She is survived by her three children: Rev. James Abbott and wife Dr. Louise Abbott of Bryan, Texas; Daughter Margo Good and Husband Charles Good of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and son Charles Abbott and wife Sheryl Abbott and their children Connor, Carter, and Kathryn of Brookings, South Dakota.
She graduated from the University of Wisconsin and taught high school biology and English in Stoughton, Wisconsin. She also wrote a column for the Stoughton newspaper. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and an active member of the Methodist Church. Throughout her life she wrote book reviews and led book clubs. She enjoyed reading and gave presentations about Native American culture for grade school children for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed cooking and baking.
Visitation, Friday, August 31, 5 to 7 pm at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service, Immanuel Lutheran Church, 4529 Wiedeville Church Road, Brenham, 10:30 am, Saturday, September 1, 2012.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
