Stephen Pete Gorka

Stephen Pete Gorka, 92 of Brenham, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2005 in Trinity Care Center in Brenham.

Mr. Gorka was born July 25, 1912 in Chappell Hill, Texas to John and Antonia (Kaczorowski) Gorka. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell. He attended Pulaski School near Chappell Hill. In October 1937 he was married to Pearlie Bronikowski in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Chappell Hill. Mr. Gorka was engaged in farming and ranching and in later years he worked for Brenham Housing Authority and Nancy Carol Roberts Library. He was affectionately known as “Pops” at the nursing home where he loved to give out candy. We want to give special thanks to the staff and his friends at Trinity Care Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Antonia Gorka; wife Pearlie Gorka; 12 sisters and 2 brothers. He was the last of 15 children.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Alois and Karen Gurka; daughter Natalie Adler and special friend Harry Kubeczka all of Brenham; grandchildren Steven and Becky Gurka of Brenham, Lisa and James Lopez of Pflugerville, Curtis and Amanda Gurka of Chappell Hill, Otis, Jr. and Andrea Adler of Brenham; great-grandchildren Travis, Kyle and Landon Gurka of Brenham, Kendal Gurka of Chappell Hill, Zachary Lopez of Pflugerville, Michael Adler of Brenham, Meri-ane Allen of White Hall, Arkansas; great-great-granddaughter Katrina Allen of White Hall, Arkansas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Joe and Martha Bronikowski, Ted and Stella Bronikowski, Julia Bronikowski and Nancy Bronikowski.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 14, 2005 in Brenham Memorial Chapel by Father Leonard Onwumere.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 15, 2005 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Chappell Hill with Father Leonard Onwumere, as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers are Steven Gurka, Curtis Gurka, Otis Adler, Jr., Johnny Bronikowski, David Bronikowski and Kenneth Kettler.

Memorials may be given to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Organ Fund or Hospice.
