Obituary

Stewart Munroe passed away in Austin on Monday, August 1, 2022.

Graveside services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Prairie Lea Cemetery
in Brenham with Pastor Mark Groves officiating.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Stewart grew to find his life’s calling as a devoted husband and a teacher of history. Meeting his wife Nancy as a young adult, they soon began a loving marriage which spanned 56 years.

His affection for history led him to earning a Bachelor’s Degree in History. After graduation, he shared his love for history as teacher in Austin. He had a particular joy for engaging his students on American and Texas history. Retiring after more three decades of teaching, Stewart continued to help those around him by volunteering for Recordings for the Blind and as the precinct chairman in West Austin for over 10 years. He had a natural talent for predicting the weather, “Munroe’s Fearless Forecast” was on average more accurate than the professionals. In his later years, Stewart often could be found reading about American History and playing dominoes with friends.

Stewart was preceded in death by his parents Herschel and Naomi (Stewart) Munroe, his wife Nancy (Chadwick) Munroe and nephew Jeff.

He is survived by his daughter Molly, son-in-law Jake, nieces Cathy, Eileen, and Karen, and his devoted dog Daisy.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be given to Hays County Food Bank or Austin Wildlife Rescue

Services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX 77833. 979.836.3611 Memories may be shared at www.BrenhamMemorialChapel.com.
